CHIEF INSTRUCTORS COURSE (WCIC)
There is a Cure for Your Child’s Summertime Blues: Karate Camp
June 27 to July 1st In Fords 9:00 to 3:00 for 5 days
Dear Parent,
Start the summer off right! Excite and motivate your child with our fantastic
Karate Camp. They will develop confidence, coordination and keep physically and
mentally fit. And what’s more your child will love it and thank you for
enrolling them. Your children will have the chance to develop the karate that
they love so much in many different ways. They will learn about the samurai,
philosophy art and develop teamwork for a demonstration skit. All the best
students have attended this camp now in its 12th year successfully running.
Space is limited, See Office for details.
* Rather than training less than three hours a week, students will train over
three hours a day.
* Each camper will also work creatively with others to develop a self-defense
skit.
* Campers will also have the opportunity to learn new basics, kata and
self-defense moves from their requirements books.
* Campers will demonstrate all that they have learned at a demonstration at
3:30 P.M. on Friday.
* On Wednesday night all camp students will be welcome to stay on an overnight
at the dojo—in a mini uchshidaishi (one who lives and trains in the dojo)
experience.
* Campers will learn about Japanese culture and history, as well as the history
of their karate style Shukokai, through stories and movies like The Inch Boy
(about a Samurai who was one inch tall), The Karate Kid, The Seven Samurai, as
well as seeing excerpts from great Shukokai practicioners.
* Campers will also develop their artistic side through the Oriental Art of
Origami.
* We will develop Improvement Plans for karate and outside of karate for each
student and implement them. The improvements that you will see after a week
will be amazing!
Karate Olympics
The theme of this year’s camp will be the Karate Olympics. We will
have many different events where we will seek out our personal bests: for
example, strongest and fastest punch and kick, highest jump for jump kicks,
best team sparring, quickest personal and karate improvements etc.
This will be done collaboratively, so that while there will be some
competition, most of it will be within themselves and everyone will improve and
feel like a winner. Still everyone will be striving to be her best. Brett
Fingerman, chief instructor at Ocean Shukokai Karate (and afterschool Karate
instructor at H.W. Mountz School) will run, direct and teach at the camp. Brett
has 25 years of martial arts experience, over 15 as an instructor. He is a
world class karate tournament competitor who has won many American
championships and some international as well. He has 10 years experience as an
elementary school teacher and as a karate camp director/instructor.
What Value! Camp will go from 10 until 4 each day except for the
overnight day in which it will go from 10 on Wednesday until 4 on Thursday. All
students with prior Shukokai Karate experience between the ages of 5 and 12 are
welcome to participate. The camp will be in session between June 27th and July
1st , 2005. The karate camp experience will help your child and his/her karate
grow throughout the year.
The cost will include kosher snacks and drinks, one pizza party
dinner, the breakfast, overnight, all the instruction, training and materials,
as well as a visit or two to the beach. Not only is this camp fun, and good at
developing the physical skills and qualities of many other sports camps, but
karate camp will focus on developing each child’s character.
The cost will be $169 for registration and payment received before
June 8th, $179 for registration and payment received after this time. At this
price and in comparison to what other camps offer, this camp is a great value.
Camp size is limited, so please enroll soon!
Students who have participated in this camp have gone on to become
honors students, American and world Shukokai karate champions, karate
instructors. While I don’t guarantee all these things for your child, I do
guarantee that participating in karate camp will give them a great push in a
positive direction. Class sizes are limited, so please enroll soon! See me if
you have any questions.
Yours very truly,
Brett Fingerman
